Look Nail Color Look Proud Collection Swatches and Review

Press Sample

Hi everyone! Today I have a new brand to show you: Look Nail Color.  This collection, Look Proud, is an ode to the Fourth of July and what better colors to use than red white and blue?

Rockets Red Glare is the red of the collection.  This is definitely a classic red.  It doesn't lean too blue or to orange, so I think it would look great with most skin tones.  Application on this was really nice and smooth and it didn't stain.  This is 2 coats.

Broad Stripes Bright Stars is a bright white cream.  I was ready for this to be difficult as most whites are, but I was pleasantly surprised.  The formula wasn't too thick and it went on pretty well.  It did streak the first coat, but it smoothed out.

I used 3 coats, but I think if I were more careful, it could have been 2.

Last but not least is Oh Say Can You See.  It's a navy blue jelly.  Application on this was nice.  Because it's a jelly there were a few bald spots.  I'd suggest waiting a bit between coats.

This is 3 coats.

Look Nail Color is available at Walgreens and retails for $6.99 per polish.  Have you purchased any Look Nail Colors or seen them in stores?

Twinsie Tuesday - Fandom

It's Twinsie Tuesday!  This week's post is all about fandom.  That tv show, book, movie, etc that you are absolutely obsessed with and can't live without.  It has you screaming Team ______ and if someone disagrees they get the side eye of disapproval.

I fangirl over a few things like Harry Potter, Adventure Time, True Blood (don't talk to me about that last season), historical fiction books in general, and Psych.  Quite the random mix.  But today's post is dedicated to all things Downton Abbey and especially the Dowager Countess of Grantham: Violet.  No one delivers those one liner insults quite like her.  I have no doubt she'd diss this manicure as well since tradition is of the greatest importance.  As a dedication to Downton Abbey, I decided to go with black lace nails.  I cheated a little, because I used Sally Hansen strips in Laced Up.

And of course this post wouldn't be a Downton Abbey fandom post without me leaving you with a quote from Lady Grantham.

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsies and what they're fangirling over!

Throwback Thursday: Milani Dress Maker

Welcome to another addition of Throwback Thursday! (I'm a little late, but it's still Thursday in Los Angeles!)

In the fall of 2009 Chanel released Jade as a part of their Jade Nail collection from Peter Phillips.  Everyone went crazy for Jade.  It sold out everywhere and started going for exorbitant prices on ebay.  I'm talking $200.  Now you're just lucky to see it pop up on ebay.  Several polish companies tried to duplicate Jade and the consensus seemed to be that Milani Dress Maker came the closest.  Dress Maker came along in 2010 as a part of the Haute Value collection.  Of course it's now also discontinued.

L'Oreal Masked Affair

Okay, I'm joining the ranks and posting my swatches of L'Oreal's Masked Affair. I found this in Rite Aide back in December and finally got it on my fingers!

Masked Affair is from the Dark Side of Grey collection that's obviously been inspired by the up coming Fifty Shades of Grey movie release.  It's also a pale lavender holo!  A holo from a mainstream brand is always exciting.  The holo on this reminds me of the scattered holo used in the China Glaze Kaleidoscope collection.

Application on this is nice, but be sure to let it dry between layers or it may drag a bit.

This is 3 coats.

Sally Hansen Golden Tourmaline

It's Thursday, so how about a bit of a throwback with Golden Tourmaline from Sally Hansen's Nail Prisms line.  This is where I say I wish they would bring them back.  They had some gorgeous colors and finishes that would fit right in with all the holos and multichromes that are popular now.

Golden Tourmaline is a pinkish red holo.  I bought it 4 years ago because for a while it seemed almost impossible to have a true red holo and this seemed like the closest we'd get to it.  Now with indies, there are quite a few true red holos out there. No regrets buying this though, because it's gorgeous!  These pictures do it no justice.

This is 2 coats.

Milani Enchanted Garnet

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!  Today I have Milani Enchanted Garnet from their Bedazzled Collection for Fall 2014.

Enchanted Garnet is one of those glowing ember type polishes with a blackened base and lots of red shimmer.  Very vampy.  No matter how many colors i have like this, I can't help buying more!  This one reminds me a bit of OPI Royal Rajah Ruby.

Application on this was good.  It goes on sheer in the first coat, but quickly builds up.

This is 2 coats.

Revlon Enthrall

Hi everyone!  Today is just a quick post because I am dead tired.  Thesis writing is definitely getting the best of me.

I bought Revlon Enthrall at Big Lots for only $1.50.  They really do have some nice polish selections right now.  Enthrall is a blackened swamp green shimmer with micro flakies in it.  If you zoom in on my photos, you can see them.  I really do love this color.  It went on perfectly.

This is 2 coats.

Maybelline Plum As You Are

Hope ya'll had a great weekend!  Today I have another fall polish for you from Maybelline.  This one is from their Fashion Rocks collection.  I first saw this swatched on Amanda from Pretty Girl Science and thought I have to have this.

I was browsing the polish section at my CVS the other day and found it!  It was pretty much a miracle because none of them were in a display.  Actually, there wasn't even a display for Fashion Rocks any where to be seen.  They were just sitting haphazardly on a corner of some wooden display.  Some one tell me why I still patronize this CVS.

Plum As You Are is a dark gray with subtle fine pink shimmer.  The way the shimmer just peeks through the gray base reminds me of a few polishes: Rescue Beauty Lounge Piu Mosso, Revlon Perplex, and Essie Armed and Ready.  The shimmer in this is so subtle that it's not noticeably apparent in light that isn't bright.

I didn't have any issues with the formula.  I'm not a fan of tiny brushes since I have wide nails, but such is life.

This is 2 coats.  Again, the shimmer isn't this apparent in most lights.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Ever Green

So keeping along with the fall theme, today I have Ever Green from the new Sally Hansen New York Fashion Week Runway Collection for Fall 2014.  I always look forward to these collections, but I can never find them and by the time I do they've been picked over and the CVS store closest to me has a terrible beauty section.  Nothing is ever in place, polish is put out on random shelves without the display and they almost never get anything new that's of interest.  But on to this lovely polish.

Ever Green is well, green.  It's one of my favorite types of green polish, a little murky, a little dark, and of the army green range.  I wouldn't put it in the pretty-ugly category though.

This one applied really nicely.  I forgot how much I love the brush on the Complete Salon Manicure polishes.

This is 2 coats.

Essie Strut Your Stuff

Today I have Essie Strut Your Stuff and short nails.  I'd been thinking about cutting them for a while, but my car door made that executive decision for me.  Story of my life.

So before I started swatching the fall Zoyas, I decided to wear something bright.  Enter Essie Strut Your Stuff from the same collection as Roarrrange, Summer 2014 collection.  This one is a bright blue cream.  Definitely a darker hue of blue than a sky blue, but still bright.

This applied really well and was easy to control.  It did stain my nails so watch out for that!

This is 3 coats.

Sally Hansen Color Foil Yellow Gold

Recently Sally Hansen came out with a line of metallic polishes.  I picked a few up  and today I have for you Yellow Gold.  Yellow Gold is as the name says, gold, but has a bit of an olive running through it.  Not quite what I was expecting, but it's nice.

The first time I tried to apply this, I was using a normal basecoat and it did not apply well.  It dragged quite a bit.  So I tried it out with Nfu-Oh! Aqua Base.  Much better.  These polishes dry fast, so you have to work fast like a lot of these reflective metallics.  Also be sure to have buffed nails because this polish shows ALL your ridges.

Over all I enjoyed these and I think I'll get a few more.

This is one coat over Nfu-Oh! Aqua Base.

Sally Hansen Pacific Blue and China Glaze Fairy Dust

Sally Hansen Pacific Blue.  We're all tired of hearing about it being discontinued, so I'll just skip that bit.  I've posted about this polish a few years ago, but since my photography skills have improved, I decided to post again and this time with China Glaze Fairy Dust that I recently picked up.  (Side note: why did it take me so long to buy Fairy Dust?  I've known about it for years, but it never made it to my collection and after this mani, I realize it's definitely a staple.  Now I need to find the gold version Golden Enchantment.)

Maybelline Lime Accent

Today I have a quick post of Maybelline Lime Accent from the Bleached Neon collection for Summer 2014.  I was unable to find any of these , but @fembot310  was kind enough to gift me the whole collection and I'm so appreciative!  These are gorgeous!  How can you ever go wrong with pastel neons?

Lime Accent is the green of the bunch.  While really bright, it also has a white base, making it look like a pastel neon.

Application wasn't the greatest, but still manageable.  It definitely goes on streaky, but things eventually even out.

This is 4 coats.

Wet n Wild A Day in Venice

A Day in Venice is a limited edition polish from Wet n Wild's All Access Beauty Collection for Summer 2014.  It's a pretty yellow cream with a bit of "squishiness."  Crelly if you will.

Since it's a crelly, it showed a bit of vnl (visible nail line) even at 3 coats.  Despite this, the application was pretty decent.  I did have a hard time with the brush.  I normally don't have a problem with wide brushes, but the bristles on this one was just all over the place and I ended up having to do more clean up than normal.

This is 4 coats.

Elevation Polish Lake Achit over NYC Tudor City Teal

Today I dug into my untried pile (which is just absolutely shameful at this point), and pulled out Lake Achit and Tudor City Teal.

NYC's Tutor City Teal is a gorgeous light teal (duh) crelly (both cream and jelly finish) that is absolutely perfect.  I never payed much attention to the NYC brand aside from the matte top coat and telling myself I need to try Grand Central Station, their quick dry top coat.  I must try more!  Application on this was workable.  I say that because the formula was a bit water and hard to control for me, but it wasn't terrible and is definitely not a deterrent.  It does take a few coats to build to opacity and it's best if you wait a moment between coats.

This is 3 coats.

NYC Tudor City Teal nail polish swatch

Elevation Polish is quickly becoming one of my favorite indie brands.  I love how she takes inspiration from nature.  Lake Achit is a glitter topper.  It has a clear base with various sizes and shapes (even stars) of blue glitter that ranges from periwinkle to almost navy.  There are also some pearly gray glitters and purple/pink/brown glitter.  Very pretty, but only one star wanted to come out and play.  The formula on this was perfect.  It wasn't crazy thick like a lot of glitter toppers tend to be.

This is one coat Lake Achit over Tudor City Teal.

I believe Lake Achit is still available on LLarowe.com and NYC can be found in CVS, Rite Aid, Target, and Walmart.  I believe Tudor City Teal is apart of the core line now.

Anyone have any suggestions on other NYC's I should try out?

L'Oreal Sexy in Sequins

My CVS is always a little late with the new collections and it always seems like someone has completely raided the polish section.  Every thing is always in the wrong place and this time there was literally 5 Essies in the display.  Get it together guys!

Anyways, I finally found what L'Oreal calls Gold Dust polishes (their version of Liquid Sand) and bought Sexy in Sequins.  Its a dark purple texture with lots of micro gold holo glitter and larger silver glitters.  It's gorgeous with and without top coat.

Like a lot of these textured polishes, it was a bit on the thick side, but was manageable.  If you want to wear it shiny, you'll need 2 coats of thick topcoat.  I used one coat of Gelous and one coat of Seche Vite

This is 2 coats of Sexy in Sequins.  No top coat.

It's been a while since I've done a gradient manicure so today's mani is a gradient!  I used Wet n Wild On a Trip and Hard Candy Frenzy.

Revlon Beguile with Ozotic Pro 529

I wore this a couple of weeks ago and loved it!

I first put on Revlon Beguile.  Beguile is slightly duochrome. It's mostly a dark blue, but the shimmer in it flashes purple and teal depending on the light.  (mostly teal)  I have no complaints about the application.  It went on pretty smooth and is nice and opaque.

This is 2 coats.

I then decided to layer Ozotic Pro 529 on top.  529 is a glitter top coat, but what makes it so special is that the glitters are duochrome and flash from navy blue to purple to gold.  It's gorgeous, so of course these pictures do it no justice.

This is 2 coats of 529 over Beguile.
