Twinsie Tuesday - Coffee

Hi everyone! Time for Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is coffee.  I was stumped for a while about what I could do besides plain brown.  None of my stamping plates have anything coffee related and my free hand skills need some work.  Then I thought about latte/cappuccino art!

So I brought out my Uber Mat and did some dry marble decals because I couldn't find my latex lol. These aren't quite as uniform as latte art and ended up looking more like stirring cream into coffee.  I kind of like how they came out, but the brown feels like it clashes with my skin.  I'd definitely do it again with different colors.

For this look you need:

  • Dark brown polish. I used Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme
  • Light tan/cream polish. I used OPI You're So Vain-illa
  • Toothpick
  • Plastic ziploc bag or Uber Mat.  I've even seen some people use those silicon baking sheets.
  • Quick dry top coat.  I used KBShimmer Clearly On Top.
  • Nail File
  • Scissors
  • Acetone and clean up brush
How I did it:
  1. Paint a square the size of your nail with the dark brown polish on your plastic bag or Uber Mat.  Make sure it's a thick coat and opaque.  Dab it on if you have to.
  2. Drop a few drops of the tan polish on the the wet dark brown.
  3. Using your tooth pick swirl and make any design you want while everything is completely wet.
  4. Let sit for a while and then paint your quick dry on top.  Don't be neat, get it all outside the "lines" to make it easy to peel off.
  5. After everything is dry peel off your decals.  Paint a nail with top coat and place the decal on top.
  6. Press down and using your nail or a cuticle stick, press down around the cuticle and file the edge of your nail to get the excess decal off.
  7. Clean up around the edges with your acetone and clean up brush
  8. Top it all off with top coat!

Twinsie Tuesday - Mix and Match

Press Sample

Hi everyone!  It's been a while since I've been able to participate in Twinsie Tuesday, but things have calmed down, and I'm getting back on track.  I love Twinsie Tuesday because it often pushes me out of my comfort zone with nail art.

That said, today is all about mixing and matching.  I decided to use some nail vinyls that I have.  It was my first time and I think it came out pretty well!

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by the Season

Hi everyone!  I've been taking a bit of a blogging break, but I'm back today with a Twinsie Tuesday mani inspired by the season.  I decided to go with a fall inspired look because the weather here in LA has been anything but fall like!

I went with a glitter gradient and it didn't quite come out how I envisioned (the base is to dark for my taste), but I kind of like it.

For this look I used:

  • China Glaze Free Bear Hugs (from the Fall 2015 The Great Out Doors Collection)
  • China Glaze Electrify (from the Hunger Games Collection)
  • OPI Thrills in Beverly Hills Top Coat

Twinsie Tuesday - Ruffian Manicure

Press Sample

Hi everyone!  Welcome to another edition of Twinsie Tuesday!  Today is all about the Ruffian Manicure.  This style was originally created by CND for the Ruffian show during the 2010 New York Fashion week and from there it kind of took off.

So since it's Halloween, I decided to do a Ruffian with Halloween colors.  I used LOOK Nail Colors Black and Orange.

Twinsie Tuesday - Recreate a Twinsie's Mani

Hi everyone!  It's Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is centered around recreating a fellow Twinsie's mani.  There are many talented nail artists in the group, so it was hard to pick one, but I decided to go with some inspiration from Lisa over at The Polish Playground.  Her manis are always so cute and I love her color combos.  Plus I'm kind of obsessed with her rounded nails.  If I thought I could pull them off I'd totally shape mine that way.

The mani I chose to recreate is her Distressed Pastel look.  Like Lisa's, mine didn't quite turn out distressed looking, but I think it looks pretty cute!

For this look I used:

  • China Glaze Something Sweet
  • China Glaze At Vase Value
  • Jessica Lime Cooler
  • Vernis Classique by Cherimoya Electric Heaven

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by a Hobby/Interest

Hi everyone!  I'm late to Twinsie Tuesday today.  It's been a crazy few days and add jury duty on top of that, but better late than never right?

Today's theme is all about hobbies and interests besides polish.  Aside from collecting (or hoarding) polish and painting my nails, I love to read.  I always have since I learned how.  When it was bed time I'd read under the covers with a flash light, read while eating breakfast and dinner, I'd even get in trouble because I'd turn on the shower and stand there reading because I just had to get through one last chapter before getting ready for school.  I'm not quite that bad now, but I still read quite a bit.
So today's mani is "newspaper nails."

I started off with a base of OPI I'm so Vain-illa.  This one is a bit streaky, so make sure to wait between coats.  This is 3 coats.

I then cut up pieces of news paper.  Apparently I ran out of rubbing alcohol, so I had to improvise with vodka.  Just put a piece of the cut out newspaper on your nail and soak it with alcohol (or vodka).

Twinsie Tuesday - Ocean Inspired

Hi everyone!  Welcome to another edition of Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is ocean inspired, so I decided to take this time to practice my nail art.  It didn't come out perfectly, but I wouldn't call it a complete fail.  Living close to the ocean on the west coast, we get to see the sun set over the ocean, so I decided to go with that and added a little island and palm tree.  Here's how it came out(I really wanted to mattify it, but of course my precious Essie Matte About You has gone missing):

Polishes Used:

  • China Glaze Givers Theme
  • China Glaze Snow
  • China Glaze For Audrey
  • China Glaze Stoked to be Soaked
  • Great Lakes Lacquer The Triathlon Trainer
  • OPI Kiss Me I'm Brazilian

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by a Flag

Hi everyone!  Twinsie Tuesday is back and today we're doing manicures inspired by flags.  In the past I've done a few red white and blue manicures to represent the American flag so today I decided to do something a little different and do one based on the Pan African flag (also known as the Afro American flag, UNIA flag, or the Black Liberation flag).

The Pan African flag was created around 1920 as a response to a popular song "Every Race Has a Flag but the Coon" and has the colors red, black and green.  Red is for the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry as well as the blood shed by our ancestors.  Black is for the black people.  Green is for the copious of natural wealth in Africa.  You'll also see these colors represented in the celebration of Kwanza.

For this manicure I used OPI Big Apple Red, BB Couture Poison Ivy and Wet n Wild Black.

Twinsie Tuesday - Shiny and Matte Combo

It's Tuesday, so time for another Twinsie Tuesday post!  Today's theme is shiny matte combo.  I decided to try a tape mani and recreate probably the most widely spread nail picture on the planet from Chloe's Nails.  It's been on my list to try since I first saw it on MUA.

It's not bad for a first try, but I was obviously being impatient with the pinky nail, which wasn't quite dry yet when I put the tape on.  Oops!

For this look I used Illamasqua Boosh as a base.

Then used Essie Matte About You to create the matte squares and there you have it!

Be sure to check out the other Twinsies' shiny/matte combos!  I'm sure they were much more creative than me.
