Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by a City

Welcome to another edition of Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is inspired by a city.  I attempted two manicures with full nail art to represent LA and they both came out terribly.  So on to plan B!  I could randomly pick a polish from my OPI drawers and I'd have a 50:50 chance that I'd end up choosing a city themed polish, so that's exactly what I did.  So now I present to you OPI Midnight in Moscow!

Midnight in Moscow was from OPI's Russian collection released in Fall 2007 (I can't believe it's been almost 10 years!).  It's a vampy coal color based polish with molten deep red shimmer.  It has that glow from within look that I love.  I believe this one is still apart of OPI's core collection, so you should be able to find it easily in stores!

This is 2 coats.

Twinsie Tuesday - Recreate a Twinsie's Mani

Hi everyone!  It's Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is centered around recreating a fellow Twinsie's mani.  There are many talented nail artists in the group, so it was hard to pick one, but I decided to go with some inspiration from Lisa over at The Polish Playground.  Her manis are always so cute and I love her color combos.  Plus I'm kind of obsessed with her rounded nails.  If I thought I could pull them off I'd totally shape mine that way.

The mani I chose to recreate is her Distressed Pastel look.  Like Lisa's, mine didn't quite turn out distressed looking, but I think it looks pretty cute!

For this look I used:

  • China Glaze Something Sweet
  • China Glaze At Vase Value
  • Jessica Lime Cooler
  • Vernis Classique by Cherimoya Electric Heaven

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by a Hobby/Interest

Hi everyone!  I'm late to Twinsie Tuesday today.  It's been a crazy few days and add jury duty on top of that, but better late than never right?

Today's theme is all about hobbies and interests besides polish.  Aside from collecting (or hoarding) polish and painting my nails, I love to read.  I always have since I learned how.  When it was bed time I'd read under the covers with a flash light, read while eating breakfast and dinner, I'd even get in trouble because I'd turn on the shower and stand there reading because I just had to get through one last chapter before getting ready for school.  I'm not quite that bad now, but I still read quite a bit.
So today's mani is "newspaper nails."

I started off with a base of OPI I'm so Vain-illa.  This one is a bit streaky, so make sure to wait between coats.  This is 3 coats.

I then cut up pieces of news paper.  Apparently I ran out of rubbing alcohol, so I had to improvise with vodka.  Just put a piece of the cut out newspaper on your nail and soak it with alcohol (or vodka).

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by your BFF

It's Tuesday and today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is BFF.  I've got to say mine is awesome.  She doesn't even blink an eye when I want to look at the polish section and goes downtown with me polish shopping and even follows my Instagram even though all I post are nail pics lol.  So I asked her last night and she said to wear a purple polish, so I'm wearing Elevation Polish Haleakala.  It's a medium purple holo with more red than blue tones.

This is 2 coats.

Twinsie Tuesday - Ocean Inspired

Hi everyone!  Welcome to another edition of Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is ocean inspired, so I decided to take this time to practice my nail art.  It didn't come out perfectly, but I wouldn't call it a complete fail.  Living close to the ocean on the west coast, we get to see the sun set over the ocean, so I decided to go with that and added a little island and palm tree.  Here's how it came out(I really wanted to mattify it, but of course my precious Essie Matte About You has gone missing):

Polishes Used:

  • China Glaze Givers Theme
  • China Glaze Snow
  • China Glaze For Audrey
  • China Glaze Stoked to be Soaked
  • Great Lakes Lacquer The Triathlon Trainer

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by a Flag

Hi everyone!  Twinsie Tuesday is back and today we're doing manicures inspired by flags.  In the past I've done a few red white and blue manicures to represent the American flag so today I decided to do something a little different and do one based on the Pan African flag (also known as the Afro American flag, UNIA flag, or the Black Liberation flag).

The Pan African flag was created around 1920 as a response to a popular song "Every Race Has a Flag but the Coon" and has the colors red, black and green.  Red is for the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry as well as the blood shed by our ancestors.  Black is for the black people.  Green is for the copious of natural wealth in Africa.  You'll also see these colors represented in the celebration of Kwanza.

For this manicure I used OPI Big Apple Red, BB Couture Poison Ivy and Wet n Wild Black.

So you think you can Twinsie?

Goofy as a mid summer TV replacement, this title really sums up where we Twinsies are currently at: a bit burned out and looking to branch out. Our little, tight knit group, has decided to take the month of August off to regroup, rest, spend time with our families, and just enjoy our last few weeks of summer before we get back into the blogging groove in September.

However, over the past few months we've also experienced the loss of a few of our members. For personal reasons, Twinsies have come and gone and we will miss each and every one of them. We've also been lucky enough to introduce you all to new Twinsies who have graced our growing group of polish sisters in the most positive and beautiful ways. Now that we're going on hiatus, we're opening up the opportunity to join in a new way.

Using the Google doc form (linked below), please feel free to apply to join our Twinsie Tuesday group. While not everyone will be accepted, we hope to encourage bloggers who are active, positive, and friendly. You don't have to have a million followers or be amazing at nail art, we are just looking for bloggers looking for a weekly challenge and being part of a warm group of girls interested in meeting new bloggers! So enter away - can't wait to "meet" all of you!

Twinsie Tuesday - Shiny and Matte Combo

It's Tuesday, so time for another Twinsie Tuesday post!  Today's theme is shiny matte combo.  I decided to try a tape mani and recreate probably the most widely spread nail picture on the planet from Chloe's Nails.  It's been on my list to try since I first saw it on MUA.

It's not bad for a first try, but I was obviously being impatient with the pinky nail, which wasn't quite dry yet when I put the tape on.  Oops!

For this look I used Illamasqua Boosh as a base.

Then used Essie Matte About You to create the matte squares and there you have it!

Be sure to check out the other Twinsies' shiny/matte combos!  I'm sure they were much more creative than me.

Twinsie Tuesday - Revisit

Hi everyone! Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is Revisit, so all us twinsies are going back to themes past that we haven't participated in and revisiting the theme.  I'm choosing a theme from before my time as a twinsie: First Polish Posted on Your Blog.  (Insert Xzibit "Yo Dawg" meme about revisiting here.)  I thought I'd do this theme since I recently had my 5th year Blogiversary (June 6th) and just let it pass by without really acknowledging it.

And now I present to you OPI DS Glow.  It's a beautiful shimmery polish with bits of bronze, copper and gold.  I used 2 coats.  I'm not sure if it's discontinued, but it's pretty easily available online.

And if you'd like to check out how far I've come since starting this blog, check out the original post!

Twinsie Tuesday - Oldest Untried

Some of you that know me know that I have an untried problem.  I'm constantly talking about it.  At this point most of my manicures are never repeats, so today's Twinsie Tuesday is kind of par for the course for me lol.  Now I have to admit that I have no clue what my oldest untried is.  There are many that have been in my stash for years, so I just kind of picked one at random.

This is Catherine Arley 669, a holo nude.  I bought this and some others back when everyone was going crazy for these in 2011.  I posted about another one of them here.  Catherine Arley is a Turkish brand that has since become even harder to get to the US.

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by a Song

Hi everyone! Today's Twinsie Tuesday post  is all about being inspired by a song.  I was going to attempt some nail art but wasn't feeling very inspired so I cheated a little and just used a polish inspired by a song.

For this I used Deborah Lippmann Glitter in the Air (inspired by P!nk's song of the same name) layered over Rescue Beauty Lounge Bikini Bottom.  I'm pretty sure I posted this look before, but that several years ago.  I love the combo, so I think it's worth posting about again.

This one coat Glitter in the Air over 2 coats Bikini Bottom.

Twinsie Tuesday - Inspired by Your Favorite Mug

Hi everyone! Today's Twinsie Tuesday inspiration is my favorite mug.  I have no idea where it came from (my mom bought them for me), but it's definitely my go to for everything, especially hot chocolate and chai tea.  I'm not much of a coffee drinker unless it's in my frapuccino, ice cream, or tiramisu.

For these nails I used the fan brush technique.  For the colors I used China Glaze At Vase Value (I forgot how much this formula sucked!), Essie Greenport, and Elevation Polish Thunder Basin (which came out looking black, but I swear it's brown!).  I love my mug, but this look did not translate AT ALL.  I wanted to incorporate the brown rim in my mani, as well as the random brown dots.  I should have left that out, but I'll definitely try the fan brush mani again soon!  In the mean time, don't laugh!

**Elevation Polish Thunder Basin was sent for an honest review.

Twinsie Tuesday - Jelly Sandwich

Press Sample

Hi everyone! Today's Twinsie Tuesday post is all about the jelly sandwich.  I haven't done one of these in so long, and I definitely need to do them more often!

For this look I used Essie Marshmallow and Pahlish Confetti Cannon.  I first layered 2 coats of Marshmallow, then a coat of Confetti Cannon, another coat of Marshmallow, another coat of Confetti Cannon and then a final coat of Marshmallow.  Sounds like a lot of work, but it's super easy.

**Pahlish Confetti Cannon was sent for an honest review.
