Twinsie Tuesday - Coffee

Hi everyone! Time for Twinsie Tuesday!  Today's theme is coffee.  I was stumped for a while about what I could do besides plain brown.  None of my stamping plates have anything coffee related and my free hand skills need some work.  Then I thought about latte/cappuccino art!

So I brought out my Uber Mat and did some dry marble decals because I couldn't find my latex lol. These aren't quite as uniform as latte art and ended up looking more like stirring cream into coffee.  I kind of like how they came out, but the brown feels like it clashes with my skin.  I'd definitely do it again with different colors.

For this look you need:

  • Dark brown polish. I used Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme
  • Light tan/cream polish. I used OPI You're So Vain-illa
  • Toothpick
  • Plastic ziploc bag or Uber Mat.  I've even seen some people use those silicon baking sheets.
  • Quick dry top coat.  I used KBShimmer Clearly On Top.
  • Nail File
  • Scissors
  • Acetone and clean up brush
How I did it:
  1. Paint a square the size of your nail with the dark brown polish on your plastic bag or Uber Mat.  Make sure it's a thick coat and opaque.  Dab it on if you have to.
  2. Drop a few drops of the tan polish on the the wet dark brown.
  3. Using your tooth pick swirl and make any design you want while everything is completely wet.
  4. Let sit for a while and then paint your quick dry on top.  Don't be neat, get it all outside the "lines" to make it easy to peel off.
  5. After everything is dry peel off your decals.  Paint a nail with top coat and place the decal on top.
  6. Press down and using your nail or a cuticle stick, press down around the cuticle and file the edge of your nail to get the excess decal off.
  7. Clean up around the edges with your acetone and clean up brush
  8. Top it all off with top coat!
Be sure to check out what the other Twinsies did!

Nubar Orange Cream Reswatch

Today I have a reswatch of Nubar Orange Cream that I posted 4 years ago.  I can't believe my blog has turned 4 without me realizing it!  Anyways, for some reason a few of the pictures from my blogs early days have gone missing, so I've decided to reswatch a few.

Orange Cream was a part of the Pastel Fever Collection for Spring 2009.  I think this one is still one of my favorite orange creams.  I love bright pastels.  And since it's a white based polish, it comes with all the biggest issue that plague these types.  Streaky-ness.  First two coats are full of streaks, but by the third it all works out.  I love it anyways.  It really pops against my skin tone.

This is 3 coats.

Nubar Hotel Baby Pink

This was one of the first polishes I bought from Nubar and comes from the Parisian Collection for Summer 2009.  Hotel Baby Pink is a stark white/pink along the same lines as OPI's Mod About You.  I love colors like this because they really pop against my darker skin tone, but that starkness comes with a price.  Application.  It wasn't the absolute worse and it actually isn't thick, but it is super streaky and if not applied right, you could end up using 4 coats trying to cover up the streaks.

This is 3 coats.

Nubar Greener

I was searching through my stash for a polish to put on (like I do almost every night) and saw Nubar Greener, a fabulous blackened green shimmer.  It's from their epic (well at least to me it was) collection Going Green 2009.  The whole collection consisted of greens including a holo and a duochrome.  I was so excited I drove to their warehouse to get the collection.  If only Nubar would come out with some more duochromes . . .

This is 3 coats.

Nubar Violet Sparkle

I bought this one a few years ago.  It's from the Sparkle collection for Spring 2010.  It's a gorgeous purple glitter polish.  I love it!  My pictures do it no justice.  It's almost bright, it's so sparkly.

This is 3 coats.

Nubar Blue Hydrangea

Blue Hydrangea is from Nubar's Spring 2011 collection.  It's a sky blue with a pearl type shimmer.  The application was great.  I was expecting brush strokes because of the finish, but there were none.  I have no complaints about this one.

This is 2 coats.

Nubar Pink Lily

Pink Lily is from Nubar's Spring Garden Collection 2011.  It's a light, pastel pink that comes off as almost a peach color on my darker skin tone.  Pink Lily also has a subtle silver shimmer to it that doesn't really translate on the nail.  Due to it being a pastel, application took a bit more effort.

This is 3 coats.

Nubar Purple Beach

Oh Nubar, how I love your duochromes.  I wish they'd come out with an entire collection.

Purple Beach is a duochrome that is purple most times.  It changes to olive and gold in different lights and viewpoints.

Nubar Night Sparkle

Another Nubar!  This one is a beautiful dark blue glitter in dark Blue base.  The glitter is pretty fine, but obviously glitter.  This beauty was opaque in 2 coats and definitely needs some topcoat.  I used 2 coats of top coat to take away all the grittiness.

Nubar Orange Cream

This is hands down my favorite orange.  It complements my skin and it's pastel.  It takes about 3 coats for opacity, something I don't mind at all.
